Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House Announced for our new location

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House for the new Traverse Health Clinic October 19th!

Traverse City, MI October 4—Traverse Health Clinic will celebrate their one new location on Wednesday, October 19th, with a ribbon cutting and media event at noon.  The celebration will be followed with a community Open House from 12-2 and 4-6.

The new location at 1719 S. Garfield Avenue, is a long-awaited improvement to the current cramped facility. When a Federal Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) health infrastructure investment grant (#C8DCS29205) for $1 million was awarded to Traverse Health last year, they knew this was the jump start they needed.  Then came the generous support of community donors during our on-going $500,000 campaign.

October 24th, when the new location at 1719 S. Garfield Avenue opens its doors, the Logan Valley clinic and administrative offices, as well as the Hall Street clinic location, will be permanently closed. All staff will move into the one new location and services will remain the same. The phone number, 231-935-0799 and hours also remain the same:

  • Monday and Wednesday:  8:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Tuesday and Thursday:  8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Friday:   8:00 am to 4:00 pm

The new location will nearly double the square footage of the community health center and increase exam rooms from 8 to 12. The floor plan will allow for more patients to be seen and much more efficient workflow.  The new site, being on a major road, will have easier accessibility and visibility, ample parking, as well as a conference room large enough for community outreach programs.

The new health center will help facilitate the “health care home” concept whereby teams of providers and staff give comprehensive primary care, including behavioral health counseling.  “Because of this new space, we will be able to increase access to primary care and behavioral health counseling for all members of our community.  Projections are for about 17,000 total encounters by the end of 2018, enabling us to comfortably serve over 4,200 people annually.” stated Arlene Brennan, Chief Executive Officer.”

The new location, right on Garfield Road, will be nearly double our current space, and allow us to increase capacity by 50%!
That means access to primary care and mental health services for over 4,000 community members each year through 17,000 patient visits!

Community support has been critical in making this happen.  Come see our blueprints and photos!

We would like to thank community with food, music and a silent auction full of exciting goodies, as well as fun auction opportunities to help support on-going needs.

The event is free to the public.

Traverse Health Clinic About to Pull Off Something Big

Traverse City, MI April 17—Traverse Health Clinic is in the end phase of a $1.5 million capital campaign which will allow a move into a new, larger clinic facility later this year!

Last year, as the Board of Directors  identified acquiring new, better space as a major priority, an opportunity to apply for a federal Health Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) capital grant for infrastructure became available.  The maximum grant was $1,000,000.  The board decided that this was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up, so a project for new space for Traverse Health was developed and we submitted our application.  We were thrilled when we received notice that HRSA was awarding us the $1 Million as requested!  Because of this grant and community support, we can make a new location reality.

Our new facility address is 1719 South Garfield Avenue, within the building where the former Cherryland Antique Mall was located.  We will pay the renovation costs to convert the existing space into a clinic facility, and have a long term lease.  The new space will nearly double our square footage and increase exam rooms from 8 to 12. The floor plan will allow for more patients to be seen and make workflow much more efficient.  The new site, being on a major road, will have greater and easier accessibility and visibility as well as a conference room large enough for community outreach programs. There will be space to accommodate some nursing and medical students, as well as other functions, such as lab draws, that just cannot occur in the existing location.

The new health center will help facilitate the “health care home” concept whereby teams of providers and staff give comprehensive primary care including behavioral health counseling.  Because of this new space, we will be able to increase our number of patient encounters for primary care and behavioral health counseling.  Projections are for about 17,000 total encounters by 2018, enabling us to comfortably serve over 4,000 people annually.

“We invite you to join us as we push to raise the remainder of money to complete this project which is vitally important for the health of our community!   Our total campaign for all renovation, furnishings and equipment is $1,500,000 and we are 85% there,” stated Sherri Fenton, Development and Marketing  Director. “A final push for $215,000 will help us reach that goal.”

If you have not yet, and would like to be a part of our capital campaign, please contact Fenton in the development office at 231-935-0412 or make your tax-deductible gift online at www.mykeytocare.org.

Traverse Health Clinic Celebrates 40 Years

Traverse Health Clinic is celebrating 40 years of building healthy families in our community.  Originally established by a group of volunteer physicians and nurses who saw the need to provide (limited) free health services to people in need, Traverse Health Clinic is today a Community Health Center with a staff of 41, providing comprehensive primary care to families five days a week.  Traverse Health, who has welcomed 1,197 new patients this past year, serves all ages and accepts all insurances, yet remains true to our roots by continuing to care for the uninsured.

Medical Director Named

Traverse Health Clinic Announces Medical Director

Traverse Health Clinic (Traverse Health) announces the appointment of a new Medical Director.  Anne Cavanagh, MD, certified in internal medicine and palliative care, assumes the role this week as Dr. Lynn Swan steps down.  Dr. Swan, who has held the position for four years, will continue her involvement with Traverse Health’s Quality Committee as well as other volunteer efforts.

Traverse Health has undergone dramatic changes since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, most notably transitioning from a free clinic to an affordable community health center, welcoming people of all ages with all types of insurances, in addition to the uninsured.  Among other leadership roles, Dr. Cavanagh has prior experience as Medical Director for Thunder Bay Community Health Service, also a community health center, and looks forward to this role at Traverse Health.  She will continue to provide patient care and is accepting new patients.

Arlene Brennan, Executive Director at Traverse Health Clinic stated, “We are very pleased that Dr. Cavanagh has accepted the position as Medical Director for our organization.  She joined Traverse Health earlier this year and her expertise will be instrumental as our health center continues to serve an increasing number of families in our community.”
