After much community collaboration, many necessary organizational changes and a long wait, we are thrilled to let you know that we were successful in being granted designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike (LAL). Thank you! We could not have achieved this without community support.
What this means to Traverse Health Clinic is that we will receive enhanced reimbursement for every Medicaid and Medicare enrolled individual who comes to us for care. While it won’t cover all our costs for care, nor cover all of the people we serve, it will give us some revenues to help replace those that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is taking away.
Approximately 25% of the people we serve are currently enrolled in Medicaid and a small number of patients have Medicare. If Medicaid expansion is approved and implemented here in Michigan, about 60 – 65% of our currently uninsured patient population would become eligible for it and therefore have coverage. Having the LAL designation will be a financial help, especially if Medicaid expansion occurs and the number of uninsured patients we serve decreases. So, while this LAL designation and related reimbursements are not enough to cover all costs for those in need of services, it is a wonderful step forward in this uncertain world of health care.
We truly value your past support and still need your continued support so that we can continue to be the area’s primary care safety net for those who fall through the inevitable cracks and are unable to pay for their own care.
Thank you for your incredible support of the Clinic during this transition. We couldn’t have done it without the community. We extend special gratitude to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Rotary Charities of T.C., The Art and Mary Schmuckal Foundation and the Oleson Foundation for operational support of the many critical internal changes necessary for our application to be eligible for consideration.
